KIEL, Germany, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese naval frigate Binzhou arrived in German military port of Kiel Friday for a friendly visit and to take part in the "Kiel Week" activities.
Frigate Binzhou is the commanding ship of China's 29th naval escort fleet for anti-piracy missions in the Gulf of Aden and Somali waters.
This is the second time that a Chinese naval ship has taken part in the "Kiel Week", after frigate Xiangtan visited the German port city in 2016.
The commanding officer of the Chinese naval escort fleet will pay visits to local German officials, including navy leaders in Kiel, the minister-president of Schleswig-Holstein, and mayor of Kiel.
During the "Kiel Week", officials and soldiers of frigate Binzhou will participate in an international maritime skill competition.
Other events include meetings of young military officers, open day and deck reception, and communication between the Chinese frigate crew and naval officers from other countries.
The 29th naval escort fleet, consisting of missile frigates Binzhou, Xuzhou and supply ship Qiandaohu, arrived in Gulf of Aden and Somali waters in May and began its escort mission after the 28th naval escort fleet.
Since December 2008, China has dispatched a total of 29 batches of escort fleets to perform anti-piracy missions in the Gulf of Aden and Somali waters.
