NEW DELHI, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won two municipal elections in the western state of Maharashtra.
While BJP bagged 57 of the 75 seats in the Jalgaon civic body polls, it won 41 of the 78 seats in the Sangli municipal body, officials said Saturday.
The BJP came to power in the two civic bodies, defeating regional parties like Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party, and decimating the country's main opposition Congress party.
The elections to the two civic bodies were held on Aug. 1 and the results were announced by polling officials late Friday evening.
BJP's win in the polls indicate the party's strong hold in the state which is also ruled by the saffron outfit.
