PARIS, June 19 (Xinhua) -- A French court on Tuesday sentenced two men to prison on charges of deadly violence against a Chinese textile designer in 2016.
During a closed-door trial, the criminal court in Bobigny, Paris suburbs, gave one defendant a 10-year imprisonment and the other five years in prison with a 12-month suspension.
They were found guilty of "robbery with death causing violence" and causing a "total work disability of less than eight days" to a friend of the Chinese designer during the incident.
On Aug. 7, 2016, 49-year-old fashion designer Zhang Chaolin and his Chinese friend were mugged in the northern Paris suburb of Aubervilliers.
The two defendants accompanied by a teenager who was sentenced to three months in prison, violently attacked the designer while trying to steal his bag. He was in a coma for five days before dying of his injuries.
His death prompted massive demonstrations by the Chinese community.
