NIZHNY NOVGOROD, Russia, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Croatia tied with Denmark 1-1 in the first half of their World Cup round of 16 match at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium on Sunday.
Denmark broke the deadlock in the first minute when Jonas Knudsen hurled a long pass from the right into the box. Mathias Jorgensen squeezed off a shot which was fumbled by Crotia goalkeeper Danijel Subasic in off the base of the left post.
Just after 3 minutes, Croatia side managed to level the score. Denmark failed to make a clearance of a cross from the right and Mario Mandzukic swept the ball into the net.
Croatia won all three matches against Nigeria, Argentina and Iceland in the group stage while Denmark finished second in Group C after a victory against Peru and ties with Australia and France.
The winner of this match will play Russia on July 7, as the hosts emilinated Spain on penalties earlier in Moscow.
